
Abdul Wahed Sidiqi
MD,PGD, MSc, FESC, Assistant professor of Cardiology, Founder & President
Abdul Wahed Sidiqi graduated from Kabul University of Medical Sciences with an MD in 2001 and became an assistant professor of cardiology there in 2004. He completed a specialization program in Internal Medicine at Aliabad Teaching Hospital in 2006 and a fellowship in Cardiology in the Netherlands in 2008. In 2009, they founded Ariana Hospital in Kabul, launching a pioneering cardiology practice and an echocardiography training program for doctors, notably advancing female cardiology training in Afghanistan and training over 100 doctors.
Dr. Sidiqi pursued advanced training in Cardiovascular Applications at Seoul University, South Korea (2011). Recognized as a trainer of Echocardiography by Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) in 2012, he introduced BLS and ACLS training in Afghanistan for the first time after completing the online ACLS program at Virginia University in 2014. He earned a master's degree in invasive cardiology from Avicenna Tajik Medical University in Tajikistan in 2017 and founded the Ariana Medical Complex, a state-of-the-art cardiology center, in 2018. Additionally, he established the Ariana Medical Journal in 2022. He was elected a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) in 2023 and an editorial board member of the Cardiology Research Journal in 2025. Dr. Sidiqi’s scholarly contributions include numerous publications in prestigious national and international journals. Notably, he served as the corresponding author of "Global Rounds Afghanistan: A Critical Overview of Cardiovascular Medicine," published in the Circulation Journal of the American Heart Association in 2025.
Achievements:
2005 – Development of Basic ECG Curriculum and conducting training (3 months) for medical students at Kabul Medical University - training hundreds of medical students and staff.
2009 – Founder of Ariana Hospital, who has been working as chairman and head of the cardiology department.
2009 – Development of Echocardiography Curriculum and conducting training; Lectures and practical Classes (one-year program) for the first time in Afghanistan (100s of doctors from all over the country trained )
2011– Founder of the Echocardiography Society of Afghanistan.
2014– Founder of the Afghanistan Cardiovascular Association, elected as President of this Association.
2015 - developed the national ACLS curriculum, published a CPR book in Dari, and delivered two-week lecture and practical training programs for medical students, doctors, nurses, and anesthesiologists at the Heart Institute of KUMS, Ariana Hospital, and in multiple Afghan provinces—training hundreds of participants.
2012-2015 – Research Project on the Incidence of different types of Cardiomyopathies and their differentiation by Echocardiography in Patients presented at Aliabad Teaching Hospital and Ariana Hospital.
2010 – 2022: Publication of articles in national and international journals.
2015 – 2017 Research Project on PCI / Medical Management in Chronic Coronary Artery Disease (Ariana Hospital and Avicenna Tajik Medical University, Tajikistan), thesis for a master’s degree.
2015 – 2017 – Developing Curriculum and conducting Doppler Training Program for Female Doctors at Ariana Hospital by supporting USAID in
2015 -2018 – worked as the medical director of the Heart Institute of Kabul Medical University.
2018 - Founder of Ariana Medical Complex, a state-of-the-art referral medical center in Kabul, Afghanistan.
2017– Became a professional member of the European Society of Cardiology.
2018 – Founder of Ariana Medical Journal
2019 - led a research project examining the link between oral hygiene and the incidence of rheumatic valvular heart disease (RVHD) in rural populations and presented at Ariana Medical Complex.
2020 – continue – Conducting Research Projects on the Influence of Mothers’ multi-parity & economic conditions on Incidences of Congenital Heart Disease in children.
2022– Has been elected as FESC.
2025- The corresponding author of "Global Rounds Afghanistan: A Critical Overview of Cardiovascular Medicine," published in the Circulation Journal of the American Heart Association.
2025- led the research and presented “The Hidden Burden of Congenital Heart Disease in Afghanistan: A Three-Year Analysis of Clinical Patterns and Healthcare Access Barriers” at the 6th Cardiology Congress in London.
2025- participate as Speaker in 11th, 12th, and 13th Virtual Cardio Hub Conference; presented “Cardiovascular Issues in Afghanistan”, “Leutembacher’s Syndrome Presenting in the Third Trimester: A Multidisciplinary Challenge in a Low-Resource Environment “, and “Gaps in Public Awareness of Heart Attack Symptoms and Risk Factors in Kabul, Afghanistan: Findings from a Cross-Sectional Study” where he received the Best Oral Presentation Award.
2025- participated as a speaker in AHS/GW-ICC, held in Beijing, China; presented “Cardiovascular Crisis in Conflict: Burden, Challenges, and Solutions in Afghanistan”
